Mindfulness is the focusing of attention and awareness, based on the concept of Mindfulness in Buddhist meditation.
It has been popularised in the West by Jon Kabat-Zinn.(“You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn how to surf”) Despite its roots in Buddhism, mindfulness is very often taught independently of religion. Alun Jones has been a (non religious) meditation practitioner since 2002 when he discovered the practice while travelling in Northern Thailand. He has since attended a number of intensive retreat courses in the UK and Ireland, most recently completing a 10 day silent retreat course for Executives and Business professionals in Hereford in June 2015. You can read more about Vipassana meditation here. Alun tries to maintain a daily meditation practice. He hopes to persuade his work colleagues to join suit at some point soon.
Alun strives to exercise a Mindfulness based approach to all his professional work, for the benefit of all his clients and the broader family picture. He is not a mindfulness / meditation teacher. However, Alun is happy to recommend Mindfulness mediation books and courses to anyone interested in learning to practice this invaluable technique (click here for Alun’s article on Mindfulness and divorce, also for further resources).
